     HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

  • “If [more] information was the answer, then we’d all be billionaires with perfect abs.”
    – Derek Sivers

My best career achievements have been those that had a positive impact on the lives of others -- while also benefiting the business I have worked for and started. My experience covers design thinking, innovation, communications, brand development, digital marketing, media relations and social media strategy.

By approaching a problem with empathy and creativity I have used the design thinking principles to help clients identify the obstacles that were stopping them from achieving their goals, and reframe the problems to make them easier to solve.

I have a proven record of leading teams and providing strategic business solutions for companies across multiple industries and disciplines. I founded indigoH2O, a premium bottled water company and was named one of Indiana’s ‘40 Under 40 Business Leaders.’

If you have tried something and it hasn’t worked, then maybe you’re working on the wrong problem. I can help you find the real problem to solve.

    The Business of Creative Enterprises

    Director & Executive-In-Residence

    Boston, MA

The major in the Business of Creative Enterprises is among the first of its kind in the country. It integrates Emerson’s strong foundation in communication and the arts to help students prepare to be leaders and managers in the creative economy.

The program draws its faculty and courses from Emerson’s departments of Marketing Communication, Visual & Media Arts, Performing Arts, Communication Studies, and Writing, Literature & Publishing. In addition to real-world training in communication and the arts, they will work with industry leaders to develop a unique creative voice and business acumen in a collaborative and supportive environment.

    • Developed and launched a $2.6M new program, the Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE) on a shoestring budget. Used design thinking techniques and emerging technology to transform a notebook of ideas into a fully-staffed and fully-functional program that attracted 400+ applicants (44 of whom were accepted) – all within a year.
    • As Executive-in-Residence (Professor of Practice), I taught five courses in the marketing department and mentored a dozen students who wanted to create their own majors. Also led the committee that developed the first two courses and collaborated on curricula for other classes.
    • Gained buy-in from disparate stakeholders including Board of Overseers, three deans, and six chairs. Facilitated meetings to find common ground, contribute to program’s success and find ways to partner on courses and projects.
    • Obtained extensive media coverage including NPR, The Boston Globe, and numerous other media outlets. This was one aspect of a multi-channel marketing campaign planned with Admissions and Marketing that resulted in 400+ applicants.
    • Partnered with leaders, businesses and institutions in the innovation community (e.g., MIT, Olin College and Berklee).

  • SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

I have spoken at Stanford, Princeton, Emerson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Indiana University, and Valparaiso in addition to numerous conferences on the subject of the changing landscape of arts education, creative entrepreneurship, and innovation.

    Art Entrepreneurship Educators Conference

    2015

Speaker: How to use fear setting as a way to boost the productivity of your students.

  • "Yuri's perspective provided me with many useful references and methods with which to market my particular art, while encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset about my work - something many artists, including me, do not naturally feel. I will refer to the notes, texts, memories, interactions, and habits gained from his class as I move ahead in my life as a working artist. "

    -Andrea Herrick (Book Art)

"YURI CATALDO has twice been invited to speak as part of our Theatre Colloquium series and his presentations have received very positive reviews from faculty and students alike. He provides clear and specific strategies on how to be a successful artist/entrepreneur, how to generate multiple streams of income, and how to develop a skill set designed to pursue opportunities in both theatre and business."

-Dr. Lee F. Orchard, (Chair, Department of Theatre, Valparaiso University)

"I was very pleased to have Yuri as a guest speaker for one of my business classes. He did an excellent job of engaging my students with his lively presentation on the value of his education and experience in theater to starting and growing a business. It was fascinating! The feedback from my students afterward was enthusiastic; several said he was the best guest speaker ever!"
